Marilyn Monroe 100th Birthday Blogathon–“Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” (1953)

Marilyn Monroe finds herself stuck in a porthole as George Winslow attempts to help. I Love Lucy would recreate this scene (sub Ricky and Ethel for George) in an episode of “I Love Lucy.”

Lucy Ricardo does her best Marilyn Monroe impression to prove she looks more like her than Ethel does. Fred Mertz thinks he looks more like Marilyn than either Lucy or Ethel!

Fantastic review! This was my first Marilyn Monroe film and it has always been a huge favourite. As you illustrate quite well in your article, there’s so much to love about it! And yes, the costumes are fantastic

Loved reading how much this one means to you, Kayla. Marilyn is fab here. The Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend sequence is one of the most iconic moments in cinema history.

I’d never seen that last photo of Marilyn with the cake before. Thanks for including it!

I’ve never thought of this as a buddy movie but it absolutely is!! I wish they would have been able to do another movie together. The costumes are fabulous. I also love the black jumpsuit. I also really love the white and turquoise ensemble. For Marilyn I love the black dress with the leopard collar. I love the scenes with the little boy. His voice and delivery is so funny!

Thank you so much for joining, Kayla! I adore this one so much. It’s probably my favorite of Marilyn’s films. It’s funny, has gorgeous costumes and musical numbers, and both Marilyn and Jane are brilliant. I can watch it repeatedly and never tire of it!
